The history
The Foundation for the Study of Liver Disease was founded in 1983 and in 1989 became the first "Moral Body" in Italy, and then in 1998, ONLUS (Organizzazione Non Lucrativa di Utilitā Sociale, Non-Profit Organisation for Social Service ).

The principal aims of the Foundation for the Study of Liver Disease at its outset and still today are to:

  • stimulate research into liver disease;
  • collect funds for high level research into liver disease;
  • offer work opportunities to young researchers, allowing them to pursue their clinical and scientific activities, by creating scholarships and bursaries;
  • promote initiatives to increase interest and awareness concerning liver disease among the general population;
  • improve the quality of treatment for all those suffering from liver disease;
  • give assistance support and information to sufferers of liver disease and their families.

For over 20 years, the Foundation for the Study of Liver Disease has been investing resources into researching causes of liver disease, the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for liver disease and assisting young researchers.
