To the members

Trieste, December 2005
Dear member,

It is by now an established tradition and one which is a great pleasure for us to tell you, what the Foundation for the Study of Liver Disease – ONLUS has accomplished during the course of this year which is now drawing to a close.

Our 2005 started in January with the inauguration of the Liver unit, CCSF at the Cattinara Hospital. This new milestone completes an aim of the Foundation with the effective marriage of the clinical with the basic and applied research. We are very proud of the fact that the foundation is the first institution to do this. In the month of September, an assessment of the activities of the CCSF  reveals results even better than expectations in terms of number of patients and medical services dispensed.

For its own part, the Centre for the Study of Liver Disease is growing in a exponential manner, in terms of scientific production and for the number of participants. Again in 2006 we will have a new doctoral student  (the fourth since 2003) coming to us from the National University of Rosario (Argentina) with a scholarship from the Ministry of External Affairs. This year, the first Argentinian scholarship holder to come to our laboratories in January, 2003 will obtain the title of Doctor of Research.

Still in an educational vein, and thanks to an important contribution, we are organising a series of seminars of high scientific interest to be delivered by top level researchers into hepatic disease which will take place at our laboratories at Basovizza. The seminars will be attended not only by our researchers but also by others from many other regional laboratories. Also for 2006, the seminar calendar is very full.

With respect to important collaborations, which the CSF regards among the most important national and international accademic realities, we have hosted the following researchers:

  • Dr. Joaquín Rodriguez of the National University of  Rosario, (Argentina)
  • Il Dr. Edgardo Guibert of the National University of Rosario, (Argentina)
  • Dr Safarina Malik, of the Eijkmann Institute in Jakarta (Indonesia)
  • Silvana Petrocelli, student of the National University of Rosario, (Argentina)
  • Prof. Richard Wennberg of the University of Washington, (USA)
  • Caecilia Sukowati, researcher at the Eijkmann Institute of Jakarta (Indonesia)

Their contribution has been very important to us.

From the month of October of this year, our web site www.fegato.it is online with a completely renovated structure and a new look. On visiting the site, you will find details about all our latest activities as well as general information about the liver and related subjects. Please let us have your comments which are important to us and to the foundation.

Having given you all the latest news about the Foundation, as in previous years, we invite you to confirm your active participation in the life of the Foundation itself, renewing (if you have not already done so) the association fee in the manner indicated below. We remind you that the association fees are  30,00€ for ordinary members and from 100,00€ upwards for special member.

Thanking you again for your participation, my collaborators and I wish you a tranquil Christmas and a 2006 full of success, health and peace.
