The Italian Liver Foundation Onlus at Trieste Next with the conference “The liver: from haruspices to big data”

The point of view of the big data expert, the doctor, the young researcher and the patient.

Since ancient times, the liver has been considered an organ of crucial importance, the seat of affection, courage, anger and intelligence. It was examined by haruspices - the priests appointed to analyse the viscera in Roman times - to verify whether the victims were ritually pure and also to draw clues for the interpretation of prodigies of various kinds: the title of the conference takes its cue from the distant past

“The liver: from haruspices to big data”

proposed and organized by the Fondazione Italiana Fegato as part of Trieste Next.

Friday 27 September, from 3.00 pm to 4.15 pm, in the Bobi Bazlen Room of Palazzo Gopcevich in fact, we will talk about the evolution in the study of liver physiology and pathology through clinics and diagnostics, analyzing the use of big data, artificial intelligence and "chatbots" in medicine, particularly in hepatology, listening to the point of view of the big data expert, the doctor, the young researcher and the patient.

The conference, moderated by Cristina BellarosaSenior Scientist of the Italian Liver Foundation, will see the participation of Diego Antonini, CEO of INSIEL, in-house ICT Company of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region; Gabriele Codotto, PhD Student University of Ferrara; Anna Fracanzani, Hepatologist and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Milan and Claudio Tiribelli, Scientific Director of the Italian Liver Foundation

The advent of big data andartificial intelligence” – Cristina Bellarosa anticipates – “allows us to create an innovative digital platform for the integration of clinical and molecular data of patients affected by various liver diseases, such as liver cancer, steatohepatitis and hepatic steatosis. During the conference we will focus on the potential of new digital technologies, but also on their limits, which must be known and taken into consideration by everyone. At the end, Prof. Claudio Tiribelli will talk about his experience as a hepatologist and scientific director of the Fondazione Italiana Fegato, which deals with translational research in the field of the main liver diseases, training doctors and researchers in a context of intense and profitable international collaborations, and which has promoted the GenIA project together with Insiel, which involves the creation of digital platforms of clinical and laboratory data and the creation of algorithms to predict the progression of hepatic steatosis”.
