"The Effect of EVO Oil on Preventing Fatty Liver Complications"

Thanks to the collaboration between ANCO and FIF, the awareness campaign on the health benefits of consuming extra virgin olive oil (EVO) was born, called "O-Liver” da una combinazione virtuosa delle parole “Oliva” e “Liver” (fegato, in inglese). Tra le varie iniziative in atto e per la prima volta nella storia di ANCO e FIF, viene promossa una fundraising to finance a research project on EVO oil, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and phenolic compounds, with potential benefits for liver health.

 What we aim to:

·         Evaluating the reduction of damage induced by lipid accumulation in liver cells

·         Analyzing changes in inflammatory and oxidative stress markers

·         Examining the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of EVOO

What is it about?

 

The liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction (MASLD), also known as fatty liver, is a pathological condition characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver, often associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes. This disease is highly prevalent among both adults and children and can compromise the normal functioning of the liver.

 

Project objectives

This project aims to provide preliminary in vitro evidence and clarify the molecular mechanisms through which EVO oil exerts its beneficial effects on liver cells, contributing to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies for the management of MASLD.

Parallelamente all’attività scientifica, e con l’obiettivo di tradurre le evidenze scientifiche in
informazioni accessibili al pubblico, sono stare eseguite diverse attività di divulgazione attraverso
seminari, interviste radiofoniche e podcast dedicati ai benefici di una corretta alimentazione e al suo
impatto sulla salute del fegato
