Big news:a fundraising campaign in support of the “O-liver” research project by the Italian Liver Foundation NPO

The main new feature of the 2024 edition of the “Walk Among the Olive Trees,” scheduled for Sunday, October 27 in over 100 Olive Oil Cities across 18 Italian regions — including in Friuli Venezia Giulia the municipalities of Trieste, Duino Aurisina, Muggia, and San Dorligo della Valle —  is a fundraising campaign in support of the “O-liver” research project by the Italian Liver Foundation NPO.This project aims to study the beneficial effects of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in preventing complications related to fatty liver disease, a condition that is becoming increasingly common. In line with the powerful message of this 8th edition of the walk "Saving an olive grove saves lives" — promoted by ANCO (National Association of Olive Oil Cities) in collaboration with LILT (Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer), FIF (Italian Liver Foundation Onlus), and UNPLI (National Union of Italian Pro Loco), and under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, this fundraiser represents a unique opportunity to support innovative research. The study aims to better understand how EVOO can help prevent and manage hepatic steatosis (fatty liver disease). Thanks to the collaboration between the Olive Oil Cities and the Italian Liver Foundation, the “O-liver” project — presented today in Imola by FIF President Decio Ripandelli as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of ANCO — will investigate the molecular mechanisms through which extra virgin olive oil acts on liver cells, potentially leading to the development of new therapies.

To further explain the research project and the awareness campaigns led by the Italian Liver Foundation to promote healthy lifestyles and proper nutrition for the prevention of metabolic diseases, Scientific Director Claudio Tiribelliwill speak at a conference in Trieste at 11:30 AMat the Auditorium of the Salone degli Incanti, focusing on “Nutritional values and properties of EVOO”, together with regional coordinator of LILT Bruna Scaggiante. FIF senior scientists Natalia Rosso and Devis Pascut will participate in the Ceroglie event, organized by the Municipality of Duino Aurisina, as part of the “Walk Among the Olive Trees” initiatives.
