FIF visit to Indonesia

Monday, July 3, 2023: First visit of the Fondazione Italiana Fegato to the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta Indonesia. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional inter-goverenmental
organization of 10 Southeast Asian countries whose governments, by ratifying the legally-binding ASEAN Charter, collaborate to promote socio-cultural, economic, and political advancement in the region.
In this historical and important visit, the establishment of a structure dealing with science, technology and clinical aspects for liver studies in ASEAN countries was discussed. FIF has a role as one of the
Implementing Agencies, together with the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines, and the University of Medicine and
Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam.

Tuesday, July 4, 2023: Meeting between the Fondazione Italiana Fegato and the National Research and Innovation Agency (Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional, BRIN) of Indonesia at the BRIN Headquarters in Jakarta. BRIN, the main and largest national research and innovation body in Indonesia, is a government institution under the Presidency of the Republic conducting integrated research, development, assessment, and application.
By invitation of Prof. Edy Giri Rachman Putra, BRIN Deputy for Human Resources, Science and Technology, the meeting, was attended by the Scientific Director of the FIF, Prof. Claudio Tiribelli, and the top-level management personnel of the BRIN. The objective was to follow up on FIF and BRIN collaborations in liver research and to enlarge joint educational schemes such as BRIN fellowships, postdoctoral, and PhD programs with the University of Trieste, and the development of Liver Lab between Indonesia and Italy.

It is worth to mention that FIF’s visit to BRIN follows the signing of an important Memorandum of Understanding between FIF and BRIN held in Trieste last September for the development of research projects and the creation of a network of expertise on the liver in Indonesia
